Explore · Willemstad

A three-hour art and culture walk in Willemstad.

This one-way route links Otrobanda, Punda, and Scharloo without backtracking. Three hours covers the walk; add another one to two hours for Kurá Hulanda Museum or a relaxed local lunch.

Hour 1 · Otrobanda

Kurá Hulanda to Brionplein

Start around Kurá Hulanda, then follow the painted lanes of Ser’i Otrobanda downhill. At Brionplein, pause at History in Motion: eight steel shields form a crown around the national flagpole and each points to a chapter of Curaçao’s history.

Hour 2 · Punda

Cross, look up, then eat

Cross the Queen Emma Bridge and turn back for the best view of Handelskade. Continue through Punda toward Plasa Bieu for a local lunch. The bridge swings open for harbor traffic; when it does, follow the signs to the free pedestrian ferry.

Hour 3 · Scharloo

Finish among the murals

Walk around the Waaigat into Scharloo for restored mansions and large-scale murals, then finish toward Pietermaai. This leg has less shade than the waterfront, so do it before midday or take a short taxi if the heat is high.

Worth knowing

Do not treat Willemstad as one photo stop. Each side of St. Anna Bay has a different history, and the murals make more sense when you leave the main waterfront streets.
